Storified by AndreaCook · Mon, Jun 11 2012 21:37:20
With about 175 people in the room, the BlogWorld attendees run the gamut in age, experience and areas of expertise. Yet, one commonality shared within the room, an understanding of today's market of unpredictability.
Some alarming statistics were shared about the current conditions of today's marketplace:
- 85% of college graduates have moved back in with their parents after college, toting about $25,000 worth of debt.
- One half of college graduates are unemployed
Despite the unsettling and bleek outlook on today's economy,
Peter Shankman and
Jelena Woehr shared some inspiring advice for the digital media professionals.
Trust. Produce. undefinedAmazonaws
Trust Shown in Character. When finding yourself in a mistake, Shankman recommends taking the Elliot Spitzer path over the Anthony Weiner route.
Both caught in a circus scandal. Spitzer admitted what he had done was wrong, he apologized and is waiting for time to pass for full redemption. Weiner, on the other hand, denied his error of judgement and will forever be remembered as the " Weiner gone wrong."
Peter sums it up, "If you screw up, own it." Not only is individual character critical in building trust and growing your brand, also the professional quality of your writing.

Trust Shown in Writing. Want to know how to be good at writing? Some tips that Peter and Jelena shared at the BWENY session:
- Become a great headline writer. The average attention span is 2.7 to 3 seconds.
- Be brilliant at the basics.
- Outrun the bear. Staying power is powerful.
- Be a marketer, not a hipster-ninja-social rock star. Revenue trumps cool.
- Take a writing class, enroll at a community college.
- Read a book. Yes, a book. It's like a Kindle Fire but without batteries.
- Find your style guide and use it.
- Travel. Life is more than what you may expect.
